1.§
A case type classifies the matter.
2.§
A filing code classifies one submission event.
3.§
A document type or title describes one file within that filing.
4.§
A fee code selects a fee component under Appendix D.
5.§
These four vocabularies are not interchangeable.
6.§
A code is administrative metadata. It does not create jurisdiction, alter legal character, cure untimeliness, waive service, or decide a filing.
7.§
If no exact code exists, the filer must use the fallback in this Appendix, give the document its exact legal title, and state the fallback on the cover. A filer may not choose a misleading code to change a fee.
