In this rule

  • (a)Filing and release
  • (b)Reporter of Decisions
  • (c)State Reporter
  • (d)Official citation
  • (e)Syllabus and metadata
(a)§

Filing and release

Every decision and opinion must be filed with the Clerk. The Clerk releases a nonconfidential decision promptly after entry and provides it to the originating tribunal and the State Reporter.

(b)§

Reporter of Decisions

The Court may appoint a Reporter of Decisions. Under the Court’s direction, the Reporter:

1.§

prepares opinions, orders selected for publication, headnotes, and indices;

2.§

verifies captions, docket numbers, citations, dates, and opinion versions;

3.§

coordinates with the State Recorder and court clerks;

4.§

maintains an errata and superseded-version history; and

5.§

publishes accessible digital copies.

(c)§

State Reporter

The Clerk and Reporter must ensure that Supreme Court decisions and proceedings in which review is granted are supplied for the State Reporter and archival duties required by law. Restricted operational access in the ECMS does not excuse publication of nonconfidential material.

(d)§

Official citation

The official citation must follow 2 R. Stat. § 222.202. Until an official citation is assigned, a filing may cite:

[Case Name], RSPC-[case number], slip op. at [page]

(Ridgeway [year]). After assignment, the official reporter citation controls. A case number is not a reporter citation.

(e)§

Syllabus and metadata

A syllabus, headnote, search tag, summary, or automated transcription is not part of the Court’s opinion unless the opinion expressly adopts it.
