In these Rules:

1.§

Accepted or accepted for filing means that the Clerk has reviewed a filed submission and changed its electronic status to Accepted. Acceptance does not change the filing time.

2.§

Account holder means the authenticated person associated with a browser session or personal API credential. An immutable Roblox user identifier controls over a display name or later username.

3.§

Appellant means a party invoking review through an appeal as of right. Appellee means the opposing party.

4.§

Bates number means the system-generated identifier assigned to a filing in the form BATES-YYYYMMDD-##########. It identifies a filing event, not a page or individual document.

5.§

Case means the electronic matter bearing one Court case number. A case is distinct from each filing and document within it.

6.§

Chief Justice, Justice, Court, and Clerk mean, respectively, the Chief Justice of the State, a Justice of the Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of the State of Ridgeway, and the Clerk of that Court. “Full Court” means all non-disqualified Justices eligible to participate.

7.§

Court-controlled platform means the electronic filing system, an official courtroom experience, a Court-controlled Discord server or channel, or another service publicly designated by the Clerk.

8.§

Day means a calendar day measured under Rule 4. Hour means sixty consecutive minutes.

9.§

Document means one uploaded file attached to one filing.

10.§

Electronic filing system, ECMS, or portal means the Court’s electronic case-management system through which a case is opened, filings are transmitted, fees are assessed, and the operational docket is maintained.

11.§

Electronic service means the system notice and document access provided to case participants when a filing is accepted.

12.§

Filed means that the ECMS has received every document comprising a filing and the filing has attained Submitted status or, after review, Accepted status.

13.§

Filing means one submission event containing one or more documents, one filing code, one electronic signature, one fee assessment, one Bates number, and one filing status. “Filing” and “document” are not interchangeable.

14.§

Filing code means the machine-readable nature assigned to a filing, such as Notice of Appeal, Motion, Response/Opposition, Reply, Brief/Memorandum, Notice, Exhibit/Evidence, Proof of Service, Stipulation, or Other.

15.§

Judgment means the separate operative disposition entered by the Supreme Court or a lower tribunal, as context requires, that finally resolves a case or a separately appealable claim. Supreme Court judgment means the Court’s final operative disposition on review. Order includes any other judicial direction.

16.§

Lead electronic counsel means the single attorney linked in the ECMS as the attorney of record for a party under Rule 19.

17.§

Lower tribunal means the Superior Court, Administrative Court, Magistrate Court, or another Ridgeway adjudicative body whose decision is lawfully before the Court.

18.§

Operational docket means the access-controlled Supreme Court docket maintained in the ECMS. It is distinct from the public register required by Rule 35.

19.§

Party includes an appellant, appellee, petitioner, respondent, plaintiff, defendant, relator, subject attorney, impeached officer, or other person whose legal interests are formally before the Court.

20.§

Pending means that a filing record exists but one or more constituent documents have not been completely received. A Pending filing is tendered, not filed.

21.§

Petitioner means a person seeking discretionary review, extraordinary relief, or relief in an original matter. Respondent means the opposing person or officer.

22.§

Proof of service means a system record, acknowledgment, declaration, or certificate establishing the manner, recipients, and time of service.

23.§

Public register means the nonconfidential case and disposition information published outside the restricted Supreme Court ECMS.

24.§

Record means the materials properly before the lower tribunal and the authenticated docket materials created in the Supreme Court.

25.§

Rejected means that the Clerk rejected an entire filing and recorded a reason. A Rejected filing has no operative effect except as a preserved audit record or as the Court expressly provides.

26.§

Self-represented or pro se means appearing on one’s own behalf without an attorney of record.

27.§

State means the State of Ridgeway. A person is not deemed to have “left the State” merely because the person is offline, leaves a Roblox group, loses a platform role, changes an account name, or temporarily loses platform access.

28.§

Submitted means that every document in a filing has been received and the filing awaits Clerk review.

29.§

Tendered means transmitted sufficiently to create a Pending filing record before all constituent documents have been received.

30.§

Written includes a text-searchable electronic document, authenticated portal entry, or other preserved electronic communication authorized by these Rules.
