PART I — FOUNDATION
Rule 1. Title, citation, authority, and scope
Title and citation
These are the Rules of the Supreme Court of the State of Ridgeway. They may be cited as “Rid. R. Sup. Ct. 1” or, for a subdivision, “Rid. R. Sup. Ct. 1(a).”
Authority
These Rules are promulgated under the Constitution and laws of Ridgeway, including the Supreme Court’s authority over appellate practice, court administration, attorneys, judicial officers, and procedure.
Scope
These Rules govern:
every proceeding in the Supreme Court;
every filing, hearing, decision, and mandate of the Supreme Court;
the Supreme Court’s administrative officers, records, and public reporting;
attorney and judicial disciplinary proceedings assigned to the Supreme Court by law; and
a lower court or officer only when a Rule expressly so states and governing law authorizes it.
No jurisdiction by rule
A pleading must identify the constitutional or statutory source of jurisdiction. Agreement of the parties, waiver, a portal case type, a filing code, or an order of a Clerk cannot create jurisdiction.
Administrative directions
The Court may issue forms, technical standards, standing orders, and administrative instructions consistent with these Rules. An administrative direction may implement but may not contradict, suspend, or amend an operative Rule.
