Your Honor, two quick points in response.
On disqualification: the prosecution's argument is that Mr. Chen "is the opposing party, so no conflict can
exist." That's backwards. Conflicts of interest arise because of a party's role in the case, not despite it. The fact
that Mr. Chen is now prosecuting the very person who publicly called for his arrest is the conflict — his
position on the prosecution doesn't cure that, it's what makes it a problem. If anything, the prosecution's
response confirms the history exists; it just argues the history doesn't matter. Defendant submits that it does.
On forced counsel: calling my filings "frivolous" is not a competency finding, and the prosecution is not
the party positioned to make one. My right to represent myself doesn't turn on whether opposing counsel
finds my motions annoying. If the Court has real competency concerns, that requires an actual hearing — not
the prosecution's say-so standing in for one.
I'd ask the Court rule on the merits of both motions, not on the prosecution's characterization of them.

Mr Chen has no financial stake in this case, has not previously been involved in this case as either Judge or
Defense Counsel, and has no personal relationship with the Defendant. Therefore there is no conflict of
interest.
The fact that you protested about Mr Chen, does not create a conflict of interest. A conflict would exist if
the Judge made him Defense Counsel, not allowed him to be Second Chair.

Your Honor, the prosecution's response defines conflict of interest too narrowly. Financial stake, prior
involvement in this case, and personal relationship aren't the only categories that matter — personal bias and
animus are recognized grounds for disqualification too, separate from those three boxes.
This isn't a case where Mr. Chen simply disagrees with me philosophically. Mr. Chen was a criminal
defendant himself, and I was among the people who stood outside his own trial calling for his arrest. That's
not an abstract political disagreement — that's a documented, personal, adversarial history between the two
of us specifically, predating this case entirely. Asking this Court to believe that history has zero bearing on his
ability to prosecute me fairly asks the Court to ignore human nature.
The standard isn't only "does he stand to gain financially" — it's whether a reasonable person, looking at
this history, would question whether Mr. Chen can approach my case with a clear head. I submit a reasonable
person would.
I'd ask the Court weigh that history on its own terms, rather than treating the absence of a financial or
formal relationship as the end of the inquiry.

Yes I have both. The oral transcript from Mr. Chen's own trial shows him being directly confronted on
record with the protest and its content, including someone stating protesters were calling for him to be killed,
which he responded to and acknowledged. I also have photographic evidence placing me at that same
protest.
